Cannon Ball won a Golden Monkey King Award

November 24, 2022, 18th Golden Monkey King Awards ceremony was held in Hangzhou. 34 works were announced winners for the three major categories for comics, animation and themed projects.

CANNON BALL received a ”Monkey King” for The General Awards Comics. Congratulations to our artist Wu Qingsong!

The Golden Monkey King Awards are considered the most influential awards in Chinese cartoon and animation industry. This year, a total of 91 made to the shortlist of animated films, animated short films, animated series and cartoons, out of nearly 1,000 works from 16 countries and regions.

CANNON BALL is a graphic novel adaptation of Liu Cixin’s SF novella of the same title. It tells a story that in the future, humanity begins to develop Antarctica. To establish fast travel to the South Pole, humanity undertakes an enormous engineering project: constructing a tunnel that runs through the entire Earth. But the tunnel soon suffers a major catastrophe and causes an economic crash. As the climate worsens, manufacturing shifts to outer space to remodel the tunnel, transforming it into a cannon that can launch rockets, allowing humanity’s large-scale expansion into outer space.

Cannon Ball is from a collection called Graphic Novel Collection of Liu Cixin's SF Classics. The whole collection are created by thirty-one comic artists from thirteen countries, reintroducing fifteen Liu’s mind-blowing SF stories with artistic images.
