About the Author
Liu Wei, born in 1978 in Xi'an, China, moved to Shenzhen in 1988, and graduated from the design department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1995, Liu Wei became graphics editor of Shenzhen Finance Art Design, Ltd. He put out more than ten short graphic fiction works from 1996 to 1997, and was invited to write a preface for the Short History of World Comics. In 1999, he became editor of the magazine Graphic Bullets. That same year, his first original feature-length work was published, in two volume: Manga Undergraduate. In 2000, he represented mainland China at the Asia Comics Summit held in Hong Kong. In 2001, the serialized Demonslayer Legend came out in Hong Kong, making Liu Wei the first mainland graphic fiction artist to publish in Hong Kong.
In 2001, he founded and served as general manager of Shenzhen Discourse Art Design, Ltd. Company. During this period, Liu Wei created and published seven works of graphic fiction, one set of teaching materials for comics, and two children's illustrated books, as well as supervising many projects developing products for children, as well as many independent works of art and illustration. His graphic novel Skipping School Accident has been adapted as a play, with Liu Wei as playwright and director.
In 2005, the Rhinoceros Innovation Workshop was established under his guidance. In 2006, he helped plan the animation hall of the Shenzhen International Culture Industries Fair. The same year, he was named one of the top ten best graphic fiction and comics artists of China. In March and October 2012, he held his solo exhibit Private Collection in Taipei and Shenzhen. The same year, he held a solo exhibit called Old Times, New Stories at Sculpting in Time Coffeeshop in Shenzhen. In 2015, he was invited to hold a solo exhibit at the Sanya Contemporary Arts Invitational, where he showed his "Dried Ink" series.
Since 2006, his works Winter Hibernation, Guardians of My Brothers, and Better to Start Over have been published in China, France, Belgium, and Sweden. In 2018, he was invited to adapt the story Micro Era by Liu Cixin into graphic fiction.
