Miki Montlló, a very talented Spanish artist, was born in 1984 in Barcelona. He is not only specialized in animation movies and video games, but also passionate with the story-telling style of comic books. He spent much of his childhood moving from city to city. Constantly having to adapt to new environments, he found a stable universe within his imagination: first inhabited by dinosaurs, giant monkeys, space rockets, later on by the Spanish and Franco-Belgian comic characters from the 80s and the 90s, then by American and Japanese superheroes. If there is something characteristic in his work, it is his attraction to the unusual things.
His professional career also shows a predilection for diversity.
After completing his studies at Escola Joso de Cómic in Barcelona, his first major break was on the cult Spanish animation movie Nocturna, which he worked on for over a year. He has collaborated on advertising projects for brands such as IKEA, Pascual, Evax, Audi, Bimbok Brugal, Nokia, Vodafone, Chesterfield, etc. and workd in the video game industry with the Spanish Pendulo Studios or the British Revolution software, creators of the legendary saga Broken Sword. He also worked on feature films such as A Magic Tale, The Impossible, and more recently, the critically acclaimed A Monster Calls by J. Bayona.
In 2011 he abandoned everything to accomplish his childhood dream of becoming a comic book artist by creating his own project, Warship Jolly Roger. The books have just been finished with the 3rd volume and are already published internationally. Meanwhile he combines his professional career with a semi nomadic lifestyle, travelling around the world and collaborating with the Oscar nominated animation studios Cartoon Saloon (Ireland) or Laika (USA). He also teaches for the online art school CGMA from time to time.
